Part 1: Your Company Anniversary Is More Than a Number. It’s a Brand Advantage.

Branding + Identity

I’ve spent more than 35 years in branding and marketing, and in that time I’ve helped companies build brands, evolve their identities, and tell their stories. But some of the most rewarding work we’ve done at BRK Global Marketing hasn’t been about logos or campaigns at all. It’s been about helping clients celebrate something they can never buy, manufacture, or shortcut: time.

Five years. Ten years. 15 years. 20 years. 25 years. 30 years. 35 years. 40 years. 50 years. 70 years. 75 years. And in two truly rare cases, 140 years and 150 years.

Every one of those milestones represents something real. People who showed up every day. Customers who believed in the company. Leaders who made hard calls. Employees who stayed committed. Businesses that adapted as markets, technology, and competition changed around them.

Most of all, these milestones represent experience and wisdom that can only be earned over time.

Don’t Just Celebrate Your Anniversary. Use It.

When a company hits a big anniversary, the celebration too often turns into a date on the calendar, a cake in the break room, and maybe a line on the website.

Companies should think a lot bigger than that. Your anniversary is a marketing opportunity.

It’s a chance to celebrate your people internally, reinforce your culture, reconnect with customers, start conversations with prospects, and remind the market that you have something a lot of your competitors simply can’t claim: a proven history of being here.

Think about how rare that is. Most marketing has to work hard to earn trust, through case studies, reviews, awards, certifications. An anniversary hands it to you. Nobody can fake decades in business. It’s one of the few claims in your entire brand story that is automatically believable the moment you say the number out loud.

It also gives you something a lot of marketing calendars are missing: a reason. Instead of one more social post or one more email with no real news behind it, an anniversary gives your team an actual occasion to talk about the company. That’s content for a full year if you want it: a launch announcement, a timeline series, employee spotlights, customer thank-yous, a video, a press release, an event, all built around one milestone.

And it travels well beyond your own channels. Local business journals, trade publications, and chambers of commerce cover milestone anniversaries because it’s a genuinely interesting story: how did this company last this long? That’s earned media most marketing budgets can’t buy.

Most importantly, it does something for your prospects that a services page never will. A five-year-old competitor can copy your website. They can’t copy your history. When a customer is choosing between two vendors and one of them has been solving this exact problem for 25 years, that’s not a tiebreaker. That’s often the deciding factor.

At BRK, we’ve helped clients turn these milestones into real brand experiences: anniversary logos and sub-brands, timelines, messaging, campaigns, social content, promotional materials, employee gear, event branding, and documentary-style history videos.

I want to walk you through what that’s actually looked like for some of our clients, because every milestone tells a different story. That’s Part 2 of this series, and it starts with a five-year anniversary and builds all the way up to two of the most remarkable numbers I’ve ever worked on: 140 years and 150 years.
