BRK Limits with Strategy: Part 1

Why Experience Still Matters in the AI Age

I’ve been fortunate to spend more than 35 years in marketing, and one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is surprisingly simple: business is built on relationships.

We have more technology, data, and artificial intelligence available to us today than I could have imagined when I started. And I absolutely believe we should embrace it. AI can help us research faster, analyze information, identify opportunities, and build a strong foundation for a marketing strategy.

But there is something technology can’t give you: experience.

You can’t download 10, 20, or 50 years of working with people, solving problems, making mistakes, building brands and learning what works in the real world. Some of BRK’s most meaningful client relationships have lasted 20-plus years. Those relationships have taught us things that don’t show up in a spreadsheet. We know the history. We know the people. We understand the culture. We’ve seen the business change. Most importantly, we’ve been through the journey together.

I’ve also learned a tremendous amount from the things that didn’t work. In many cases, failure makes you ask better questions than success does. What did we miss? What could we have done differently? What did the customer really need? Those lessons become part of your experience, and experience creates perspective. That’s why I don’t see AI as a replacement for people. I see it as another powerful tool in our toolbox. The future of marketing isn’t AI versus humans. It’s AI working with human experience, creativity and relationships. That’s where I believe the real opportunity is.
